Baycolisty® is indicated for gastrointestinal infections caused by colistin sensitive microorganisms like E. coli, Haemophilus and Salmonella spp.
Mechanism of action:
Colistin sulphate is an antibiotic from the group of polymyxins with bactericidal activity against gram-negative bacteria like E. coli, Haemophilus and Salmonella spp. Polymyxins interact strongly with phospholipids, penetrate into, and disrupt the structure of cell membranes. They disorganise the outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria by binding lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and thereby neutralising the endotoxin capacity of LPS. Orally administered colistin is eliminated in faeces.
