Composition: each ml contains:

Closantel (sodium)        125 mg

Ivermectin                     5 mg

Target species: Cattle and Sheep

Indications:

Bay Clomectin® is used for treatment of mixed trematode (fluke), nematode or arthropod infestations due to the following gastrointestinal roundworms, lungworms, eyeworms, warbles, mites and lice:

Trematodes (liver fluke): Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica

Gastrointestinal nematodes: Ostertagia spp., Teladorsagia spp., Haemonchus spp., Trichostrongylus spp., Cooperia spp., Oesophagostomum spp., Nematodirus spp., Strongyloides spp., Bunostomum spp., Toxocara spp. and Trichuris spp. and Chabertia spp.

Lungworms: Dictyocaulus spp. and Protostrongylus spp.

Eye worms: Thelazia spp.

Lice: Linognathus spp. and Hematopinus spp. and Solenoptes spp.

Mites: Sarcoptes spp. and Psoroptes spp.

Oestridae larvae: Hypoderma bovis, Hyporderma lineatum and Oestrus ovis

Mechanism of action:

Closantel is a synthetic antiparasitic agent, which is highly effective against liver fluke, bloodsucking nematodes and larval stages of some arthropods in cattle and sheep. Closantel decouples the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, which leads to the inhibition of ATP synthesis. This causes a significant change in energy metabolism, leading to the death of the parasite.

Ivermectin is a class of macrocyclic lactone anthelmintic that enhances the release of GABA at presynaptic neurons. GABA acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter and blocks the post-synaptic stimulation of the adjacent neuron in nematodes or the muscle fibers in arthropods. By stimulating the release of GABA and or producing a slow and irreversible increase in permeability of glutamate-gated chloride channels (GluCl) to chloride ions and hyperpolarization of nerve cells, doramectin causes flaccid paralysis of the parasite and eventual death. Tapeworms (Cestoda) and flatworms (Trematoda) (such as Fasciola species) do not use GABA as a chemical mediator in peripheral nerves, so this drug has no effect on these parasites.
