Tilmicosin is a broad-spectrum semi-synthetic antibiotic from the class of macrolides. Cross-resistance between tilmicosin and other macrolide antibiotics has been observed.

Respectively, 1 and 8 hours after SC injection of 10 mg/kg B.W. in cattle and sheep, maximum plasma concentration of drug is achieved. Following SC injection, tilmicosin is distributed throughout the body but especially high levels are found in the lungs. Lung concentrations of tilmicosin is remained above 90% of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Mannheimia haemolytica for a minimum of 4 days. Tilmicosin is excreted mainly via the bile into the faeces, with a small proportion being excreted via the urine.
