Sterile Injectable Solution.

Therapeutically classification: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)

Composition: Each ml contains:

Target species: Horses and cattle

Indications: Ketoprolak^® 10% is used as analgesic, anti-inflammation, antipyretic and especially for musculoskeletal disorders in many species like horses and cattle.

Cattle: for the treatment of non-infectious mastitis or as an adjuvant therapy with antibiotics in the treatment of infectious mastitis and pneumonia to reduce inflammation and pulmonary tissue edema and for the treatment of arthritis, osteitis and inflammation of articular soft tissue. Use of this drug in three days sickness or bovine ephemeral fever has good efficacy.

Horses: treatment of synovitis, arthritis, tenosynovitis, osteochondritis, laminitis, Adjunctive treatment is used to relieve and improve soft tissue inflammation after surgery, as well as to reduce pain and treat colic.

Mechanism of action:

Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and cyclooxygenase enzyme inhibitor. NSAIDs work by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, thromboxane and other inflammatory mediators. So NSAIDs have analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Pharmacokinetic:

Ketoprofen is quickly absorbed following intramuscular or intravenous administration and maximal plasma concentration is reached within 25 minutes after injection in cattle. Ketoprofen penetrates quickly into the site of inflammation and its concentration into exudate is equal to or twice that of the plasma concentration and remains high for a long time. Ketoprofen more than 99% is bind to plasma proteins, mainly albumin and less than 1% excreted as unchanged drug. Ketoprofen is eliminated as conjugated and unchanged metabolite through the kidneys.

Dosage & Administration:

This solution can be administered by IM or slow IV.

Horses: 2.2 mg/kg B.W. (10 ml/ 450 kg B.W.), daily for 3 to 5 days

Cattle: 3 mg/kg B.W. (3 ml/100 kg B.W.), daily for up to 3 days

Withdrawal time:

Meat: 4 days after the last treatment

Milk: 1 day after the last treatment

Contra-indications:

Do not use in racehorses during the match.

Do not inject intra-articular.

Do not use in animals showing hypersensitivity to ketoprofen.

Do not administer to animals with impaired renal and hepatic function.

Caution:

This drug should be used with caution because analgesic effect of ketoprofen may mask the signs of a serious colic/gastrointestinal problem which could require surgical correction.

Because of the effects of ketoprofen on fertility and reproductive function, it is not recommended to use it during the reproductive period of mares.

Keep out of reach and sight of children.

Use only under the prescription of veterinarian.
