Mechanism of action:
Oral rehydration therapy is a type of fluid replacement used to prevent and treat dehydration, especially after diarrhea. It involves drinking water with moderate amounts of sugar and salt, specifically sodium and potassium. Water transportation into the body can also be facilitated by the active co-transport of sodium and glucose. In the presence of sodium and glucose, they are actively co-transported across the small intestine into the body through the use of energy requiring pumps, which also opens a channel for the entry of water.
