Mechanism of action:
The mode of action of closantel is inhibiting oxidative phosphorylation in a parasite. A specific action of the drug is to stimulate ATP enzyme this resulting in the uncoupling of electron transport-associated phosphorylation.
This, in turn, causes change in energy metabolism in the parasite and, as a result, its death. Mebendazole produces degeneration of the parasite microtubule and block glucose uptake in parasite. Inhibition of glucose uptake causes depletion of energy store in parasite, eventually resulting in death.
