Bayoxy® 20% LA

Sterile Injectable Solution

Therapeutically classification: Antibiotic

Composition: Each ml contains:

Oxytetracycline dihydrate             200 mg

Target species: Cattle, Sheep, Goats

Indications: Bayoxy® 20% LA is used for the treatment of several systemic and local infections in cattle, sheep and goats such as shipping fever, infectious gastroenteritis, acute mastitis, metritis, theileriosis, leptospirosis, actinobacillosis, black leg, bovine infectious keratoconjunctivitis, foot rot, enzootic abortion in ewes and also in prophylactic treatment of post-surgery and post parturition infections.

Mechanism of action: Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic. It has activity against most gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria such as Mycoplasma spp., Spirochetes, Chlamydia spp., and Rickettsias. Tetracyclines generally inhibit protein synthesis by binding to 30S ribosomal subunits of susceptible microorganisms, thereby prevent binding of aminoacyl transfer-RNA to those ribosomes. Tetracyclines also are believed to reversibly bind to 50S ribosomal subunits and additionally alter cytoplasmic membrane permeability in susceptible organisms. In high concentrations, tetracyclines can also inhibit protein synthesis by mammalian cells.

Administration & Dosage:

For long acting effect, the product is given by deep IM injection at a rate of 20 mg/kg B.W. (1 ml/10 kg B.W.). For slow IV administration in cattle, which achieves low volume injection but no Long-acting effect, a dose of 10 mg/kg B.W. (0.5 ml/10 kg B.W.) is recommended. This may be followed 24 hours later by a single IM injection at the 1 ml/10 kg B.W. dose.

In lambs for the treatment of tick pyaemia and as an aid in the treatment of tick-borne fever, a 2 ml dose is recommended per lamb by IM injection.
