Indications:

Baylosin^®20% is used for treatment of infections due to aerobic gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp. and some gram-negative bacteria (except coliforms), Spirochete spp., Chlamydia spp. and specially Mycoplasma Spp. Generally this drug is applied for control and treatment of these diseases:

Cattle and Calves: Pneumonia, pneumo-enteritis, calf diphtheria, contagious pleuro-pneumonia, arthritis, foot rot, pink eye, uterine infection and mastitis caused by gram-positive cocci, otitis media and interna in calves.

Sheep: Acute and contagious agalaxia resulting from Mycoplasma agalactiae, pneumonia and mastitis.

Goats: Contagious ovine pleuro-pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri.

Mechanism of action:

Tylosin is an antibiotic which belongs to macrolides group and from structural and functional viewpoint is similar to erythromycin. This antibiotic is produced by Streptomyces fradiae. Tylosin binds to 50s ribosomal subunit then prevents bacterial protein synthesis and applies its bacteriostatic activity.

Pharmacokinetics:

Tylosin is rapidly absorbed after injection. It is well distributed in the body after systemic absorption, with the exception of penetration into the CSF. 8 hours after injection, tylosin concentration in the milk is about 4 times more than its concentration in the plasma. Tylosin in the lung tissue is several times more than its concentration in the serum. Tylosin excreted through bile and urine.

Dosage & Administration:

Cattle, Calves, Sheep and Goats: 10 mg tylosin per kg body weight (or 0.5 ml Baylosin® 20% per 10 kg body weight), daily, up to 5 days by intramuscular administration.

Withdrawal Time:

Milk: Cattle: 3 days after the last treatment / Sheep and Goats: 2 days after the last treatment

Meat: Cattle: 7 days after the last treatment / Sheep and Goats: 3 days after the last treatment

Contra-indications:

Do not use IV or SC administration.

Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to tylosin or other macrolide antibiotics (e.g. erythromycin).

Due to fatal diarrhea in horses, using of this drug is absolutely forbidden.

Caution:

Avoid contact with skin.

Don’t inject more than 10 ml in one site.

If improvement is not obtained for 3-5 days after drug administration, it is advised to revise diagnosis and treatment.

Pain and inflammation resulting from injection and mild gastrointestinal disorders like diarrhea and anorexia have been reported.

Keep out of reach and sight of children.

Use only under the prescription of a veterinarian.

Storage:

Do not store above 25°C, keep away from light and freezing.
