Bay Doxy® 50%

Doxycycline 50%

Water soluble powder

Therapeutically classification: Antibiotic

Composition: Each g Contains:

Doxycycline (Hyclate)

500

mg

Target species: Poultry (Broilers, Breeders, pullets) and Turkeys

Indications:

Bay Doxy® 50% is used For treatment of Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) (Mycoplasma gallisepticum), systemic colibacillosis (E. coli), air sacculitis, polyarthritis (Mycoplasma synoviae), fowl cholera (Pasteurella multocida), necrotic enteritis (Clostridium spp.), infectious coryza (Haemophilus spp.), Salmonellosis, infections caused by staphylococci and streptococci, ornithosis  and chlamydosis.

Mechanism of action:

Doxycycline belongs to the group of tetracyclines and has bacteriostatic action against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Doxycycline binds to subunit 30s ribosomes of the bacteria and inhibits the protein synthesis, thus doesn’t allow the bacteria to grow and divide. The drug is primarily excreted into the feces via non-biliary routes so it can be used in animals with renal dysfunction.

Dosage & Administration:

Poultry: 20-40 mg of product per Kg B.W. or 200-400 g of product per 1000 liters of drinking water for 3 to 5 days

Turkeys: 20-40 g of product per 100 liters of drinking water for 3 to 5 days

Withdrawal times:

Meat:

Poultry: 6 days after the last treatment.

Turkeys: 8 days after the last treatment.

Drug Interaction:

Do not administer with bactericidal antibiotics like betalactams, cephalosporins and aminoglycosides.

Contra-indications:

Do not use in case with hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.

Do not use in poultry that produce eggs for human consumption.

In general, tetracyclines chelate divalent or trivalent cations such as calcium, iron, aluminum and magnesium, hence concurrent administration of antacids or other drugs containing these cations, kaolin, pectin, bismuth subsalicylate and sodium bicarbonate decreases gastrointestinal absorption of tetracyclines, although doxycycline is least affected.

Caution:

Should be used within 72 hours after opening the sachet.

Medicated water should be used within 24 hours.

At the vet’s discretion, doxycycline can be used concomitantly with tylosin, Tiamulin, colistin, bacitracin, sulfonamides, florfenicol and lincomycin.

Keep out of reach and sight of children.

Use only under the prescription of a veterinarian.

Storage:

Do not Store above 25°C, keep away from light and moisture.
